ACTIVITIES OF 2013

15TH MUSIC COMPETITION FOR THE DISABLED HELD ON 30TH NOVEMBER 2013

Swaasthya Foundation in association with Inner wheel Bangalore South conducted the 15th State Level Music Competition for the Handicapped on 30th November 2013 at VVN Auditorium, Basavangudi, and Bangalore. More than eight institutions participated in this event and there were close to 100 visually handicapped, mentally handicapped, and physically handicapped participants. The competitions were held in the solo vocal category of light music, film hits, and classical songs. There were group events in singing, instrumental and dance.

Judges for this program were the noted Hindustani singer Mr. Jagadish and light music singers Smt Gayatri and Mrs. Kala Krishna. They all appreciated the quality of the performance and said that some of the participants were exceptionally talented and were above them. Mr. Jagadish went out of the way and gave special prizes on his own to some of the best performers.

Chief Guests of the Program were Mr. Ponnappa, Media Academy Chairman, Shri Srinivas Rao Kasbe, Trustee, Raghavendra Swami Mutt, and Mrs. Rapid Rashmi a noted Radio Jockey of Big FM 92.7. They all spoke very highly of this initiative of Dr John Ebnezar and lauded the role of Mrs. Vatsala Prasad, Inner Wheel President for supporting this noble cause. Rashmi even sang a song in the remembrance of her mother Late Smt Uma who has associated with this cause for the past 10 years but unfortunately passed away on 4th July this year. A 2 minute silence was observed in her memory. Prizes were distributed by the guests and some special gifts like books and toothpastes were given away by Mrs. Vatasala, Innerwheel President.

Everyone, including parents, teachers, and guests were full of gratitude and praise for encouraging the musical talents of the specially challenged people. This is the only organization that is conducting such a program uninterrupted for the last 15 years. Every year it is becoming and better and more number of institutions have started taking part in the program.

The program was a very grand success and everyone went very satisfied with a big smile on their faces especially the disabled participants. Seeing them so happy we felt our efforts were justified and gave us more strength and determination to continue our efforts of serving the disabled in our own musical way.
